Custom software case study

Inspection Reports System Completion Summary

A custom PHP/MySQL reporting system was built for a fire-safety service provider to help engineers capture structured site inspection data and help admin teams manage clients, locations, users, and report history. The system provides role-based access, mobile-friendly engineer forms, searchable report records, and admin tools for managing operational data.

Inspection Reports System Completion Summary

The challenge

The client needed a clearer and faster way for field engineers to record safety asset information during site visits. Existing reporting workflows needed to be easier to use on-site, more consistent, and easier for office staff to search and manage afterwards.

The solution

A lightweight web application was developed with separate admin and engineer workflows.

Engineers can select a client and location, choose the relevant report type, complete structured asset forms, and submit the report. Admin users can manage clients, locations, and users, search report history, view reports, and identify locations without reports.

The system also supports previous-report prefill, helping reduce repetitive data entry on recurring visits.

The outcome

Built a custom reporting system for field inspection workflows.
Added role-based admin and engineer access.
Added structured report forms for multiple safety asset categories.
Added searchable client, location, and report management.
Added previous-report prefill for repeat site visits.
Created a foundation for future workflow and reporting improvements.
